What Are The Most Expensive CryptoPunks Ever Sold
In a previous article, I described what a CryptoPunk was and why it is one of the most popular NFTs among investors.
In this article, I will show you the most expensive CryptoPunks ever sold. Before I begin, I would like to briefly explain one or two things about CryptoPunks.
• CryptoPunks are the most sought-after NFTs at the moment, with almost every investor wanting to get a piece of them.
• CryptoPunk #3100 is the most expensive CryptoPunk ever sold in the history of NFTs, for a whopping sum of $7.58 million.
• CryptoPunks can greatly increase in value when they are held for a long period. An example would be CryptoPunk #561, whose value increased by 21,009% within two years.
• Some CryptoPunks usually come in collections with a given limit, which explains their rarity and, in turn, their high price.
In recent years, CryptoPunks have come to be seen as a digital NFT representative in the digital world.
The massive attention that it is currently gaining is a result of its uniqueness because it represents the history that was the foundation for the crypto art movement.
With only 10,000 CryptoPunks in circulation, buying one now means that it most likely will increase in value due to its scarcity, which is one of the major reasons investors are highly interested in it.
With that said, follow me as I take you down the list of the most expensive cryptocurrencies ever sold:
1. CryptoPunk #3100
Price Sold: $7.58 million
Last time of sale: March 11, 2021
With just a simple headband, the CryptoPunk #3100 made history as the most expensive CryptoPunk ever sold. It was a day to remember for the CryptoPunk communities and other digital collectibles alike.
Due to its rarity, CryptoPunk #3100 comes as one of only nine alien punks which is why the price is so high.
The owner of CryptoPunk #3100 is planning to put it up for sale again, this time for a whopping sum of $91 million. If this becomes a success, CryptoPunk #3100 will break its own record for the most expensive CryptoPunk ever sold.
2. CryptoPunk #7804
Price Sold: $7.57 million
Last time of sale: March 11, 2021
Also one of nine alien punks, CryptoPunk #7804 sold for $7.57 million, coming within a hair’s breadth of equaling CryptoPunk #3100, the most expensive CryptoPunk ever sold. This CryptoPunk’s appearance consists of a forward-facing cap, a smoke pipe, and eye shades.
Dylan Field, who is the chief executive officer of Figma, and the owner of this punk stated that he was sitting on a “digital Mona Lisa.” This goes to show you the extent to which investors/buyers value these assets.
3. CryptoPunk #8857
Price Sold: $6.63 million
Last time of sale: September 11, 2021
CryptoPunk #8857 sold for $6.63 million after it received multiple offers of interest from various investors offering millions of dollars in exchange.
This punk’s appearance consists of a rough hairstyle and a 3D glass, which makes it unique and automatically expensive as well.
It also has the lucky number 8 among its figures, which is considered by many Chinese investors as they see the number 8 representing luck and prosperity.
One other thing to note here is that the sale was done in secrecy, as no one knew who the buyer or seller was.
4. CryptoPunk #5217
Price Sold: $5.45 million
Last time of sale: July 30, 2021
The CryptoPunk #5217 is one of the 24 ape punks in the ape collection, which justifies the price tag as there are only nine of these in existence.
The Punk’s appearance comes in the form of a sewn cap and a golden neck chain with brown skin color. Just like CryptoPunk #8857, no one knows who bought this particular one.
Also, the Punk seems to have become inactive as it was recently moved to a wallet containing other punks, some of which are worth well over $1 million.
5. CryptoPunk #7252
Price Sold: $5.33 million
Last time of sale: August 24, 2021

7. CryptoPunk #2338

If CryptoPunks can be held for a long time to see an increase in their value, CryptoPunk #2338 will be a good example of that.

The CryptoPunk #8888 went for a whopping sum of $2.87 million as of August 28, 2021. This particular punk is not rare like other CryptoPunks on this list, but what makes it special and the reason for it being on this list is the lucky number 8 it has.
In China, 8 is considered a lucky number, and this punk has four 8’s in its name, making investors believe that they would get some luck if they bought it. Because of this, it will likely continue to garner attention, which in turn would translate to even higher prices.
